The world is one big musical instrument!
Levity Beets’ Bamboo Bucket Boing Show features humorous songs, enlightening ditties and musical trials and tribulations inspired by and played on many instruments including giant bamboo log drum guirros, builders buckets, boinging string frog drums as well as the more easily recognised guitar, and ukulele .
Levity draws on a fervent curiosity about music, sound and creativity to make heartfelt performances for children of all ages. Often bringing unusual musical instruments to his shows that he conceives of from repurposed, recycled and re-imagined everyday items showing us there is music in all things. He also plays more expected things like guitar and ukulele and shares humourous songs that encourage fun and understanding and often building new connections with the natural world.

Levity comes from a family with traditions in improvised and irreverent musical adventuring. His grandparents played skiffle, his parents rock ’n’ roll and Levity Beet plays a bit of everything, including new musical instrument inventions made from old bar heaters, air bed pumps, tyre valves and anything imaginable.
He aims to encourage curiosity, experimentation, creativity and an appreciation of the world around us through writing and producing music with diverse themes inspired by a heartfelt enjoyment of simple things, amazing creatures, funny coincidences and connection with both like-minded people and those with new ideas.
Levity writes, records, mixes and produces music for himself and many others from Little Blue Studio in Tākaka, home base for his independent recording label, Wildbeet Records, where he has also produced music for children’s television and documentary film projects.
New Zealand’s most seasoned creator of collaborative children’s music projects, Levity has been part of a growing community of writers, performers, artists, producers and advocates who share the job of seeing high-quality music and other media made for New Zealand children and families.
When Levity is not in the studio doing music production, he spends time each week tutoring Golden Bay children in guitar, bass, drums, audio production and songwriting, and mentors a young five-piece pop-rock band.
He also spends time in nature with a field recorder, collecting sounds to create virtual instruments for his projects and to share with other creators.
After a childhood of guitar lessons, Levity Beet went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts with a major in music and continues to learn from each new project and collaboration.
