Our volunteers make the festival happen.

From welcoming audiences and supporting artists to helping behind the scenes, our volunteers are at the beating heart of the Nelson Arts Festival. If you're keen to get involved, meet great people and be part of bringing the festival to life, we'd love to welcome you to our Festival Whānau.

No previous experience is needed, just enthusiasm, reliability and a willingness to lend a hand.

As a Festival Whānau volunteer, you'll receive:

- A Volunteer Pass with standby entry to festival performances when you're not on shift (subject to availability).
- Training and support from our friendly festival team.
- The chance to meet artists, fellow volunteers and festival staff.
- A unique behind-the-scenes festival experience.
- An invitation to the Festival Crew Wrap function

There are plenty of ways to get involved, including:

- Front of House & Ushers - Welcome audiences, scan tickets and help events run smoothly.
- Artist Liaison & Ground Transport - Support our visiting artists throughout the festival. (Full driver’s licence required)
- Audience Survey Crew - Help gather audience feedback.
- Schools Programme Support - Assist with school performances and activities.
- Administration & General Support - Lend a hand behind the scenes.
- Festival & Event Support - Help at outdoor events, activations and special festival moments.
- Hosting & Festival Ambassadors - Be a friendly face and help create a welcoming festival atmosphere.

We'll provide all the training and information you need before your first shift, and our festival team will be there to support you every step of the way.
