Led by carver and artist Kahu Paki Paki, this exhibition is an intimate portal of recreation and the journey for some of our most talented carvers, weavers and makers of Te Tauihu o Te Waka a Māui.
Drawn from a lifetime of admiration for the cultural expression of the past, this exhibition is a cheeky journey of quiet rebellion to retrieve ownership of our taonga tuku iho. Recognising that the only access many of us had to our taonga and Māori art was through the glass of a museum display, this event unlocks these restrictions by stealing the images with our imagination and allowing practitioners to recreate them for everyday access.
