TĀHAE: STOLEN FROM THE MUSEUM

Kahu Paki Paki

Exhibition

Tāwera | Mon 26 Oct-Wed 18 Nov | Daily, 10am-5pm | Free

Drawn from a lifetime of admiration for the cultural expression of the past, this exhibition is a cheeky act of quiet rebellion, reclaiming ownership of our taonga tuku iho. Recognising that many of us experienced our taonga and Māori art only through museum glass, it uses imagination to recreate these treasures for everyday access.

Led by carver and artist Kahu Paki Paki, this exhibition offers an intimate portal into the recreation of taonga by some of Te Tauihu o Te Waka a Māui’s most talented carvers, weavers and makers.
