Hear about what shaped Rita Angus‘ unique vision in an illustrated talk and then follow this with a tour of the exhibition.
Rita Angus, one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most iconic 20th century artists, has an important place in our collective imagination. Hers was an Antipodean take on international modernism, shaped by feminism and pacifism.
Join us to celebrate her work and life in this illustrated talk with Lizzie Bisley, Curator Modern Art at Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa.
In collaboration with: The Suter Art Gallery Te Aratoi o Whakatū
Lizzie Bisley is the Curator Modern Art at Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. She specialises in modern art and design, particularly from the years between 1920 and 1950. She was a contributor to and editor of Rita Angus New Zealand Modernist He Ringatoi Hou o Aotearoa, a publication that accompanied a major exhibition of the same name, developed by the Royal Academy of Arts, London and Te Papa. Rita Angus created a distinctive vision of a new, modern New Zealand.
