Hot on the heels of their acclaimed 2021 collaboration, artist Catherine Bagnall and poet Jane Sayle celebrate another collection of watercolours and poems inspired by nature.
In the Temple is the second collaboration between artist Catherine Bagnall and poet Jane Sayle, which integrates stunning watercolours with original poems inspired by the artists’ contemplation of nature. Together, the two women explore their intense personal connections with the natural world, which take them into the realms of private ritual and the power and meaning of special places.
In the Temple maintains a focus on ecological thinking, exploring intense personal connections with the natural world that take the reader into the realms of private ritual and the power and meaning of special places.
Join us for this very special event at the Suter Art Gallery on opening night. Jane Sayle will read a selection of her ecological poems near the Contemplation Gallery, where Catherine Bagnall’s art will be displayed (see exhibition listing here). Experience a magical atmosphere, a mythological world and enchanted places.
In The Temple is a companion work, in the same high-quality full-colour hardback format, as the duo’s 2021 book, On We Go, which enjoyed widespread acclaim. This multi-arts performance will appeal to everyone interested in ecological writing; it’s book for those new to poetry as well as serious poetry fans.
All pukapuka will be for sale through our Festival bookstore Paper Plus Nelson, both at their shop and at their stall at Pukapuka Talks sessions – your opportunity to meet authors and get your books signed! You can also purchase books from Paper Plus online.
Jane Sayle has been a dealer in curios and ephemera, an art writer and reviewer and a lecturer in art and design history.
Catherine Bagnall is a senior lecturer in the School of Design at Massey University. Her work focuses on performance practices and its intersection with dress.
