Pay What You Can returns for 2024!
Following on the wonderful and often heartfelt feedback towards our trial of Pay What You Can (PWYC) ticketing across both our 2022 and 2023 festivals, we are proud to announce that we will continue to offer five tiers of ticket prices for this year’s events.
“I think this was a real game changer, and this was mirrored by many of my peers (and random strangers, too). A huge thanks to the PWYC sponsors MCH and NBS – PLEASE KEEP THIS UP!”

How do we open our door a little wider so that more people can experience the arts, feel seen and included in our offerings?
We firmly believe that financial accessibility plays a huge role in enabling participation in events like our festival.
“Impressed beyond words re PWYC for this allows me to continue supporting this awesome festival which you can be justifiably proud of. Congratulations on taking this thoughtful initiative for making it accessible for many of us pensioners – a guaranteed reading audience.” – audience member
With the innovation funding support from Manatū Taonga finishing at the end of last year, we are especially grateful that our Kārearea Partner NBS have decided to continue their support of our Pay What You Can ticketing.
“NBS congratulates the Festival on its 30th year of bringing joy and entertainment to all our communities. We are proud to support the PWYC ticketing initiative for the third year to ensure everyone gets the chance to see a show within their financial circumstances.
This is community investment at its best and aligns with our vision and values to support events when we are able and to uplift communities and achieve equitable outcomes,”
says Nic Foster, Community Engagement Manager at NBS.
And what’s more, with Pay What You Can tickets, it is easy to pay it forward and make a difference for others as well: if you are able to, we encourage you to choose a higher tier ticket and thereby directly support someone else in the community to attend at a price accessible to them.
“I’m so glad you offer this, it feels good to be able to pay more now since I’m able, and it was essential for meto attend previous events at lower price points.”
