REBECCA JENSEN | SOUND + MOVEMENT WORKSHOP

With her new work SLIP in mind, Naarm-based dancer/choreographer Rebecca Jensen will share some improvisation techniques and guide you to explore the relationship between sound and movement. An experimental approach to dance, perfect for those who have some dance experience or training but are ready to play.

WAKA OF DREAMS | DREAMING BIG WITH LISSY + RUDI ROBINSON-COLE | FULLY BOOKED

Crochet extraordinaires Lissy and Rudi Robinson-Cole are among THE most exciting contemporary visual artists in Aotearoa right now with their ngā toi celebrating cultural heritage through captivating storytelling and artistic innovation. Their exhibition at the Refinery will be the first time their joyful works are shown in Te Waipounamou. In collaboration with friend and multi-disciplinary artist Hollie Tawhiao, the exhibition will take place alongside the premier of their latest large-scale project, the Waka Of Dreams: Punanga Pohewa, symbolising journey and aspiration. This interactive artist talk will offer insights into their art practice as well as how whakapapa and tupuna inspire Lissy and Rudi’s work and get you thinking about how you can express identity and vision through both traditional and contemporary practices.

VICTORY POETRY SLAM: WORKSHOP | SHELDON RUA + TALIA STANLEY

The Victory Poetry Slam is back! Join internationally acclaimed facilitators and Spoken Word artists, Sheldon Rua and Talia Stanley for a Spoken Word workshop – and, if you feel up for it, follow up with an exclusive performance of your poem live at Victory Boxing.
Open to all experience levels, as long as you’re 14 and older.
All workshop participants will leave with a poem.

PLOTTING HISTORICAL FICTION WORKSHOP | CRISTINA SANDERS

Calling all local writers! Cristina Sanders, author of Mrs Jewell and the wreck of the General Grant (shortlisted for the Jann Medlicott Acorn Prize for Fiction in 2023) and her latest novel Okiwi Brown, leads this workshop on how to outline a historical fiction story and make a start on writing it.
