Emma Ling Sidnam is a Wellington-based writer, slam poet, and lawyer. She loves translating life to art and combining wordplay with meaningful messages that connect with people. As a fourth-generation Asian New Zealander, she is passionate about representation and ensuring that all voices are heard. She has been published in The Spinoff and Newsroom and in anthologies by Te Herenga Waka Press and Auckland University Press. She was awarded the prestigious 2022 Michael Gifkins Prize for her manuscript Backwaters, which resulted in a contract with Melbourne-based publisher Text. Her debut novel Backwaters is published on September 26, 2023.
