We’re proud to again gift a paid residency to an artist from Te Tauihu, to progress their mahi or trial new ideas. This will culminate in a sharing during the Festival where the selected residency artist can show the community what they’re working on. Our 2024 recipients are Hariata Herekoe and Chloe Loftus.
We want to support local artists through time and resources, help them meet new audiences, and to tell local stories to the community (and the world!). With this intent, we are thrilled to offer another Te Tauihu artist a paid residency as part of our festival offering for the third year in a row.
We are delighted to announce our 2024 By Whakatū Residency recipients, Hariata Herekoe and Chloe Loftus.
Hariata Herekore (they/them) is a Whakatū based artist who uses their experiences growing up in Te Tauihu to inform their work. Hariata – the wildest dreams of their ancestors. Hatiata – the whispered promise spoken into an empty room. Hariata – free and unbound.
Chloe Loftus (she/her) is a professional dancer, choreographer, mass movement director and Contact Improvisation devotee. She is best known for her captivating outdoor dance-theatre creations, bringing the streets to life and communities together.
Their residency will culminate in a sharing during the Festival, giving Hariata and Chloe the opportunity to talk about what they’ve been developing, share their work in progress or workshop ideas live with an audience. Please join us on Saturday 2 Nov, 2pm, at the Refinery ArtSpace for the 2024 By Whakatū Residency Sharing, Sat 2 Nov, 2PM, and find out what they’ve been exploring and experience some incredible ideas growing in our community!
