Strong female perspectives at the Suter! Selected works from Te Papa’s summer exhibition – Rita Angus: New Zealand Modernist | He Ringatoi Hou o Aotearoa – brings together 20 works by one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most iconic 20th century artists, Rita Angus (1908–1970). The paintings span Angus’s life and career as an artist, drawing out the themes of pacifism, feminism and nature that shaped so much of her work.
Fast forward to the new generation of exciting artists in Aotearoa, Selina Foote‘s paintings examine the relationships between abstraction, art history, and the aesthetic and conceptual underpinnings of contemporary art.
Hear about what shaped Rita Angus’ unique vision in Rita Angus: An Illustrated Talk, followed by a tour of the Rita Angus exhibition at 3pm, Saturday 29 October. A ticketed event as part of Slow Art Day.
